Accepting your style

This is my latest ATC card. I call her "Delicate Beauty". I like her and am very happy with how she turned out; but, yes there is a but. I wish I could be more whimsical in my art. If you have noticed by now most of my pieces are all pretty formal. The embellishments and layering is at a minimum. Which is very frustrating to me. I want to add more; but every time I do my piece looks as if it went from a lovely woman to a harlot. All it takes is that one step to far. So very frustrating.

Then there is Laura Carson and Valerie Brincheck who can add layers upon layers and their cards turn out beautiful; never over the top. How in the world do they know when enough is enough, or just one more thing will complete it? Another artist who can bring fairies to life, well two other artists are Debrina and Amanda Howard their art is so sparkly and full of fun and life. I cannot tell you how hard I have tried to make my pieces come across as theirs does.

Then one day it was as if I finally got it. We all can't do the same thing. We all can't do all the techniques perfectly. What a very boring world it would be if we all had the same style. I am finally at peace with what my style is, vintage. Yes, I want to continue to progress and get better; but I have realized that I see the world very linearly. I can get out of the box to some extent; but I will always be somewhat formal in what I create. I am not jealous of these artists and others I have seen who can do what I cannot do. I just sometimes wish I could be a little less formal in my art. Because believe me there is absolutely nothing formal in my daily life. Maybe there is a Freudian thing going on there. My mother would be so thrilled if the formality I see in my pieces would spill into my every day life. Well I guess she can dream as I can; wishing for something that is not going to be.

Experimenting in art

I am experimenting with different techniques with a common thread of adding a 3 D effect to each. I like how it makes the piece jump off the paper. As if some how it is alive "real" for lack of a better description. This particular card is using mica and emboss resist. I used paint dabbers from Tim Holtz. A script stamp and several colors of perfect pearls. The image is from Christi's collage called "Horsin Around". I used several of her images in the following cards. They are really beautiful and pop off the card. Mica is a pretty cool product. I cannot wait to use it more. It ages and give the piece a vintage look; which I prefer.

The card below is using polymer clay with perfect pearls in multiple colors after the baking process. I like the way it turned out; but, isn't there always a but when you try something new. I did not bake it as long as it was suggested for a reason. I wanted to break pieces off here and there. As if it had been around for a while; adding the vintage feel. I did add several coats of mod podge to help support and harden it. I am going to say it needed to be baked a bit longer because it is a bit more delicate than I like. I am pleased with the over all look.
This piece was fun to create. I found the images sometime ago. I am not sure where so if someone see this and it has some kind of copyright that I am abusing please let me know and I will remove it from the blog. Anyway, I am in this warrior kind of mood. Don't have a clue why but I liked the fantasy about this. Two partners waiting to protect their world. I really like 3 dimensional pieces on cards and wanted to see what I could come up with. I again used perfect pearls with several shots of glimmer mist. I used several colors of each product. I looked everywhere to find a toy sword that would be small enough to add. I was unable to, so ended up finding an image on the web and cutting it out and adding it with foam glue dots. I used a flourish stamp from Tim Holtz's line.

This piece is still along my warrior series. I am a big fan of Angelina Jolie. I liked the movie Wanted though it was quite violent. I used a Tim Holtz stamp for the background. Again using the perfect pearls to add color. I then added a banner with the title. It was my 3 D effect for this card.

This particular card did not scan well at all. It is an emboss resist technique. The image is from Christi's horsin' around collage. The flower and leaves are felt and I liked how it gave it a very vintage feel.

This piece is all about the images. I again used an image by Christi. I found the haunted house on flickr it is Matt West's photo stream. I then found some tombstones again from flickr cut them out to add dimension. I then printed another image of the rider and using foam glue dots added her on top to put her in front of the horse. I liked how it came together. Sneaking through the haunted cemetery.

I tend to get a bit obsessed when I like something that is why each piece has a 3 D effect going on. I am loving the way images jump off the page when you add foam dots. Give it a go. You may find it adds something different to your art pieces.

Ramblings and going ons

OK, I know it has been a while since I blogged. My life has settled into a bit of confusion. First off, my camera is back from it's walk about. This is very embarrassing. It was in one of my many bags in my craft room. I got a wild hair and decided to clean, paint and try to organize my craft room. How the little bugger got in there well that is anyone's guess. I cannot tell you the surprise it was to look in the bag and their it sat; all ready to start taking pictures again.

I don't know how many of you have this problem but I have a hard time staying on task (focused) on any one thing. There are so many things I want to do in a day that at times absolutely nothing gets done. That is what has happened to my poor blog. I wish I could promise that my new years resolution is to stay up on my blog. Show more pictures of my art. Unfortunately it would be an empty promise. I love to blog, I love to show you what I am working on; but the simple truth is I HATE to feel as if I have to do something. As soon as something becomes an obligation I put it off until the word procrastination feels neglected. This is a very sad trait, I know. It is like this, I feel that life is so very short and I need yes I said need to enjoy every moment it has to offer. I need to try everything. I need to look at everything. I need to chat with people I would of never meet if not for the internet. I simply need to live each and every moment. So, the only promise I can make is this. I will try harder to share all the things and people I met along the way.

The other thing I wish to say is how excited I get when I get a comment from one of you who stumbles onto my blog. I truly do love hearing from you. I want to chat with you. Hear from you what exciting new art project you are making or have seen so please keep emailing me.

Now, I do want to share with you my very first journal page I made. I have joined the soul journal group on yahoo. It is a real supportive group of ladies. Fun and inspiring to see what they do. This page is my self affirmation page. Words, things I wish to remember when I am feeling less then inspired.

I have also made some ATC cards and canvases that I will post later. Again thank you for all your support I cannot wait to chat with you in the coming new year. It (the year) goes so fast, I just cannot believe it is already 2009. So my advise to all of you go explore chat with someone you have never met, make something you have never attempted before. Take a picture of something anything it really does not matter. Just get out there and live, because 2009 will soon be 2010.
